Warrior Princess

Hi everybody!!  I'm excited to share my latest canvas with you.  I finished this one last week.  It's called "Warrior Princess".

I think she is beautiful!!  I tried really hard to make her features a little different from my usual ladies because people always ask me if I'm painting myself, lol.

She started out as a sketch in my art journal.  I drew her in between shoppers at The Peddler's show I did earlier this month.

I was kinda having a rough week and I thought "you know what, I need to let off so steam by painting".  So I started with my base colors.  I wanted the background to be deep and rich.  This is not a happy go lucky kinda piece, it's about the struggles we over come.

She was coming along great but she needed more presence, more strength.  So I kept adding little details and then it hit me, she needs a bigger headdress.

Oh yes, much, much better!!!

I used hard body, soft body and fluid acrylics along with Dylusions inks, book text and a Heidi Swapp stencil.

I searched for quotes and thought that this Demi Lavoto quote was perfect.

We all suffer from ups and downs but at the end of the day it's all about brushing yourself off and getting back in the ring.

Hi everyone!  I hope all is well with you.  I wanna take a moment to thank Karon for checking up on me and to fill you in on whats been happening.  I'm sure you all have noticed that I have been MIA lately.  I'm fine just suffering from a little blogging burn out.  Trying to balance work, family and hobbies has been very hard for me.  Life seems to pick up speed daily and I have to decide what I'd like to do most with my free time.  These days any free time I get goes to creating.  I'm doing more and more shows so I have to try and keep up my inventory.  I've also been searching for ways to expand my product line.

I'm extremely please with the way my art business is growing.  One of my goals from the very beginning was to have my artwork printed on different things like bags and notebooks.  Recently I've found ways to make that happen and I now carry everything from originals to jewelry, stationary and zippered bags.  If you're interested in keeping up with me, Facebook is really the best way.  I try to share works in progress there as well as upcoming show information and other happenings.  I also interact with everyone there via comments or private messages.  Here is the link to my page:

Okay well onto art!!  Here's a look at one of the canvases I just finished:

This is a large 20x20 1.5" deep canvas.  Let me know what you think!

Thank you so much for joining me today and Karon thanks again for checking on me!

Have a beautiful day!!

Hello everyone, thanks for stopping by!!  Today I have a really fun mixed media collage to share with you.  I was pretty happy about this month's color because I love cool turquoise especially with a pop of a warm color like pink or red.

So I started out with one of the backing boards from the Nesting Components kits.  Dana does this so I thought I'd give a try too ;D.  I wanted to just have fun, let loose, do some recycling and use up scraps.  I found strips of stamped paper from one of my Dec projects.  Believe or not it was still hanging around on my desk, lol.  I just glued them on with Modge Podge and the blue was accidental.  It was paint that was still on my paint brush but hey it works!  The strips of paper are stamped with the Postcard stamp

Recently my son went through a phase where he was taking electronics apart so now I have lots of techie scraps lying around.   Being the hoarder "creative" person I am I saved all the little pieces to use in my projects.  I also dug into my junk box for chipboard bits and cardboard.  The yellow piece is actually the divider from my grandson's Memory game (no one's stuff is safe, lol).  I gesso'd everything and stamped a cute little bird from the Bird Melange stamp set.

Next it was time to get inky!!  I sprayed various shades of teal, turquoise and blue Dylusions inks over everything.

After that I dug into my Nesting Components kits and found THE perfect image (love her).  I tucked in my techie pieces here and there.

I randomly stamped the Writing cling stamp and added beautiful pink flowers.

This beautiful sequenced heart has been in my stash for over 10 years!!  I'm glad I finally found the perfect spot for it, see hoarding pays off (sometimes, lol).

Here's another look at the beautiful pink flowers.  The jeweled flower is my stash of flea market jewelry finds.

She looks pretty sassy don't you think?!  Her look, the beautiful bold color and all the bling instantly reminded me of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun".  So using another scrap from my desk, I stamped it on using the Perfect Alphabet stamp set.  This is my newest PWP stamp set and I'm so glad I got it.  It's a must have, trust me!!

I managed to work in a yellow bangle some more birds and the piece of tag.  I have to say, I really love this one!!  It just makes me happy :D

Okay well it's time to send you off to your next stop so head on over to Amber's Blog!

Dakota - Mixed Media Canvas

Hi Everyone!!  I'm back today with a new mixed media canvas.  This is a custom ordered piece.  I was given a theme and color combo to work with and this is what I created:

Meet Dakota, named after the beautiful quote "We will be known forever by the tracks we leave" of the Dakota Sioux.

I started out by painting a base coat of turquoise and then sketching my focal image.

I working on her face and then moved onto the background.  I used masking paper to cover her and then created rays using a stencil.  I also added streaks using an old credit card.  I wanted to add subtle texture to the background so I used molding paste with a stencil.

After that I drew in native american motifs to tie the background to the focal image.

With the background nearly complete, I turned my focus back to my beautiful native american woman.  I added details to her clothes, head piece and jewelry.

I was given a choice between two quotes to use and decided on this one.  I think it really fits the piece and is a great quote.

I finished off by adding dark blue paint to the edges.  I feel like it helps finish a piece when I have some sort of border.

I was really happy to do this themed piece because I've been wanting to do an native american piece.  In fact, my next canvas will probably be in the same theme.  If you have an idea for a piece and would like to order a custom canvas, just shoot me an email, message me on Etsy or FB.  If you send it through Twitter I may not see it.  So let me know what you think of Dakota!!  She'll be traveling to her new home this week.  I sure hope she is loved :D

Thank you for stopping, HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY!!
